This course is a space for sharing and learning about successful citizen-led community development. We will unpack the principles, practices, and tools that put local assets and action at the centre any project, program, or community-organizing process. It offers a “time-out” for you to question conventional community development practices and beliefs and to re-evaluate your role and the role of your organization in stimulating and supporting genuine asset-based and citizen-led development (ABCD).

Approach to Teaching and Learning:
This blended online and in-person course is designed to allow you to individually and collectively explore your own experiences related to ABCD, to foster critical reflection, and to explore the application of learning in your own practice. Facilitators support participants to explore concepts and practical tools through learning activities designed to maximize dialogue and peer learning. Activities vary from session to session and include mini-presentations from facilitators, short exercises, readings, videos, individual and group reflections, small group work, group presentations, and real-time, facilitated discussions with peers and facilitators.
Course Participation and Assignments:
Activities and assignments in this course are designed as opportunities to assess and reflect on learning, deepen questions for further exploration, and critically analyze and articulate how to apply and transfer the learning to your own context and practice. A Learning Evaluation document will be accessible to you once the program begins. As an overview, evaluation in this course encompasses the two areas of work, Participation (in online and in-person sessions and Assignments, which will be explained further during the onboarding session.

As a participant, you will be expected to attend all live sessions (both online and in-person) and complete any work assigned by the facilitators. All instructional materials will be in English.
