Background and Goals:

StFX recognizes that we are stronger when we honour our differences. Valuing and promoting equity, diversity and inclusion creates a campus community where we support the needs and aspirations of our students, faculty and staff by being creative, adaptable and inclusive in our practice and policies. We provide opportunities to members of all communities to participate, engage and belong.

The Transforming Practice: Learning Equity, Learning Excellence curriculum aims to address an existing gap in professional development opportunities for faculty and student services professionals in higher education in Nova Scotia.

Module 3 Learning Objectives:

  1. Articulate an expanded awareness of equity-seeking groups in Nova Scotia.
  2. Connect how students from equity-seeking groups in Nova Scotia experience daily life with how they experience barriers in post-secondary education.
  3. Explore your roles and responsibilities as they relate to Nova Scotia legislation as well as equity policy and procedures at your post-secondary institution.

Disclaimer: Equity-seeking is a controversial term in reference to groups that are historically and currently marginalized and excluded in Nova Scotia. At StFX, the PACAR Action Plan and its terminology of "Equity-Deserving Groups" is the preferred way of describing these groups.
